B.tech. Horticulture Overview

B.Tech. Horticulture is an undergraduate program that focuses on the science and technology of cultivating plants and managing crop production. The program aims to impart knowledge and skills in the fields of horticulture, plant genetics, plant breeding, plant propagation, and plant protection.

A Bachelor of Technology in Horticultural Science four-year undergraduate program in engineering focuses on plants, propagation, and production. Graduates will be competent Technologists with an emphasis on plant propagation and production. Students may choose to focus on an area of specialization, such as landscape design or interior plantscaping.

B.tech. Horticulture Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have passed 10+2 in Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics as mandatory subjects.

Upon successful completion of 10+2 from a recognized educational Board with a minimum aggregate score of 80%, with Physics, Chemistry and Maths/ Biology/ Agriculture as the main subjects, one is eligible to apply for enrolment to the course.

Most Indian institutes teach horticulture as a subset of agriculture, while others offer a separate degree in horticulture. Successful graduates of the course interested in higher studies in the discipline may go for pursuing Ph.D. in the discipline.

B.tech. Horticulture Admission Process

Admission to the B.Tech. Horticulture program is through entrance exams like JEE Main, KEAM, ICAR AIEEA, etc.

Admission to the course is based on university- level counseling which is based on the score obtained in the UPES Engineering Aptitude Test (UPESEAT).

The remaining 20% seats are decided on the basis of the score obtained in 10+2 or rank obtained in JEE-Main.

On the Basis of Board Merit: Minimum 80% aggregate marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (classes X & XII), and minimum 80% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (class XII).

On the Basis of JEE Mains Merit: Minimum 60% marks in aggregate at Higher & Senior Secondary levels (classes X and XII) and minimum 60% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (class XII).
