PhD in Art History Research About

The proposed PhD research aims to explore the intersection of art, politics, and identity in contemporary mural art movements. With a focus on postcolonial perspectives, this study will investigate how mural art serves as a powerful tool for social commentary and cultural expression in urban environments. By analyzing a diverse range of case studies from different regions around the world, including Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, this research seeks to uncover the ways in which muralists negotiate complex historical narratives, challenge dominant ideologies, and assert marginalized voices through their artistic interventions. Through interdisciplinary methodologies combining visual analysis, archival research, and interviews with artists and communities, this study seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of mural art in shaping collective memory, fostering social change, and reimagining contested urban spaces in the 21st century.
